Which documents are required in order to be eligible for registration?

The conditions of registration differ depending on the country where you obtained you degree. For some countries a copy of your degree is enough. For other countries extra certificates are needed. Besides these documents, a copy of your ID has to be submitted. All documents should be accompanied by a sworn translation into Dutch, English, French or German, if not drawn up in one of these languages.

Belgian qualifications

Dutch degrees

To be eligible for registration, you must meet one of the following conditions:

  1. Hold a Belgian certificate of equivalence to a degree referred to in the list of eligible degrees of the Act of 8 November 1993, issued by a Belgian NARIC or National Recognition Information Centre;
  2. Or hold a Dutch registration as a "GZ-psycholoog" (health care psychologist), clinical psychologist or neuropsychologist, with an entry in the BIG  register (Individual Healthcare Professions);
  3. Or hold a Dutch Master's degree in psychology, and produce written supporting documents showing that you have exercised the profession for at least one year full-time equivalent in the past ten years in the Netherlands. Examples of acceptable supporting documents are: 
    • contracts,
    • payslips,
    • statements by employers or supervisors,
    • extracts from VAT returns;
    • cooperation agreements with colleagues,
    • invoices for psychological test material.

French degrees

To be eligible for registration, you must meet one of the following conditions:

  1. Hold a Belgian certificate of equivalence to a degree referred to in the list of eligible degrees of the Act of 8 November 1993, issued by a Belgian NARIC or National Recognition Information Centre;
  2. Or hold a French registration as a "psychologue" with an entry in the ADELI register;
  3. Or hold a French degree from an officially-approved 5-year university course in psychology, type "master 2", mentioning "finalitA(C) professionnelle"  or referred to in "DA(C)cret nA90-255 du 22 mars 1990 fixant la liste des diplAmes permettant de faire usage professionnel du titre de psychologue".

German degrees

To be eligible for registration, you must meet one of the following conditions:

  1. Hold a Belgian certificate of equivalence to a degree referred to in the list of eligible degrees of the Act of 8 November 1993, issued by a Belgian NARIC or National Recognition Information Centre;
  2. Or hold a German degree from an officially-approved 5-year university course in psychology, mentioning:
    • "Diplom-Psychologe"
    • or "Diplom-Psychologin"
    • or "Dipl.-Psych."
  3. Or hold a German degree that meets the criteria set out in the relevant judgement "BGH 1985 AZ: I ZR 147/83" of the Federal Court of Justice.

Other foreign degrees

To be eligible for registration, you must meet one of the combinations of conditions set out in the document with registration requirements for foreign qualifications.

Every document (diploma or certificate) has to be accompagnied by a sworn translation into English, Dutch, French or German, if they are not drawn up in one of the official languages of Belgium.
