The elections

The purpose of the elections is to elect the Assembly of Representatives of the Commission of Psychologists, which will be the institution's central body for the next four years. A total of twelve people will be elected:

  • six in clinic;
  • two in schools;
  • two in research;
  • and two in work and organisation.

They are divided between the Dutch and French-German language roles.

The representatives will be elected for each sector by, and from among, the people who have identified this sector as being that of their main activity. In addition, the members of the Commission Bureau will also be elected from among these 12 representatives.

Article 4 of the law of 8 November 1993 protecting the title of psychologist states that failure to take part in the vote, without a legitimate reason, is punishable by a warning or suspension.

So not only will this be the first time that you, as psychologists, will be asked to vote directly for your representatives, it will also be the first time that you will have the opportunity to stand for such a responsibility yourself!

It is essential to stress that the elections, and the communication that accompanies them, will take place mainly by electronic means. We therefore invite you to update your email address in your profile so that you don't miss anything!

However, alternative solutions have been put in place for those who do not have an email address or who are not comfortable using computers. These people will be informed by post and will have the opportunity to visit the Commission offices to obtain detailed information or to take part in the vote. We are also available by telephone if you have any questions.

Voting

Once all the applications have been received, information about the candidates will be posted on our website, but will also be available in hard copy at our offices. On the website and by e-mail, we will also be providing you with more practical information about voting, as well as frequent enough reminders to make sure you don't miss the voting period, which will run from 17 March 2025 at 08:00 to 31 March 2025 at 18:00. Voting is compulsory, so it's a good idea to get organised if you want to register a proxy (again, we'll get back to you with information on this in due course)!

When the ballot begins, you will need to vote electronically by logging on to the voting platform with your electronic identity card (or via ISTME, CSAM or any other equivalent system) to ensure that each person votes only once. Make sure you have an ID card reader or an ISTME account. If you have a foreign identity document, we will get back to you to tell you how to connect to the voting platform.

Full details of the electronic voting system, instructions on how to cast your vote electronically and the list of candidates by section will be sent to you at least two weeks before the start of the ballot.

You will only vote for candidates from the section for which you have chosen to be represented (clinical, school, work/organisation or research). Whether you are French-speaking, Dutch-speaking or German-speaking, you can vote for someone with a different linguistic role to your own.

In each sector, the candidates with the most votes will be elected full members. The others with the most votes among the non-elected members will be appointed as substitute members (between 12 and 24 substitutes are needed). The Royal Decree provides solutions for all eventualities: absence or insufficiency of candidates, equality between two candidates, etc. But we'll save those details for later! Those who are too curious can always consult the text of the law.

As soon as the vote is over and the votes have been counted, the results will be published on the Commission's website or will be available in our offices. In the following month, the list of elected members and substitutes will be communicated directly. Finally, if all goes well and no appeals are lodged, the elected members of the Assembly of Representatives will meet at the earliest eight days after the results are published on the website, and the members of the Bureau will then be elected to the Assembly of Representatives!

For these elected members, the adventure begins for four years, with the Bureau meeting once a month and the Assembly of Representatives meeting at least six times a year.
